Cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases remain leading causes of morbidity, mortality, and healthcare expenditure worldwide. Arterial stiffness, commonly assessed by pulse wave velocity (PWV), is a well-established marker of vascular ageing and a predictor of cardiovascular and cognitive outcomes. This project aims to generate new knowledge on the biological determinants of vascular ageing and improve methods for risk prediction. The findings will be disseminated through peer-reviewed publications and will contribute to the identification of novel therapeutic targets and strategies for disease prevention, ultimately benefiting public health. Genome-wide association summary statistics generated from the study will be made publicly available to support downstream research by the wider scientific community. In addition, any machine learning models developed from the arterial waveform data will be returned to the AIRWAVE study for future use and, where feasible, made openly available to facilitate replication, validation, and further methodological development by other researchers.
