Metabolomic Signature of Physical Activity and Its Association with Age-Related Macular Degeneration

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) remains the leading cause of blindness in individuals over the age of 50 in developed countries and is projected to affect 288 million people by 2040. Vision loss resulting from AMD is not only a significant health concern but also leads to a major decline in quality of life and imposes substantial socioeconomic burdens. There is an urgent need for new treatment modalities to mitigate the impact of AMD. This study aims to enhance our understanding of physical activity as a modifiable risk factor, potentially identifying new targets for treatment. Additionally, it may provide insights that will help define more effective physical activity guidelines to assist patients in
reducing their risk of developing AMD.
